We tried to take Maya to a puppet show, but it wasn't playing. So instead we headed across the city to Al-Azhar Park. It's the only proper park in Cairo and was finished shortly after we left in 2004. We paid the 5 Egyptian pound admission (1.25 CAD) to enter the park. We soon found ourselves walking up a palm lined avenue with the occasional fountain. It was a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. We had a great walk around the park. In some parts there was a stunning view of the Citadel.
We came across a great childrens playground and Maya took off running while squeaking with delight. She tried out every slide in the park and ended up with a black spot on her pants from the ever present film of black pollution. It was great for her to finally run around without worry about traffic, people or falling off a 2 foot curb. We all headed back to our hotel happier and a little more tired.
