- The Egyptian People Really Are A Teacher To Anyone Who Wishes To Learn -

Jason had the great idea of taking Maya to the zoo. It cost 25 cents to enter- quite possibly the cheapest thing we've done here. Maya met a little girl named Jana. She was at the park with her grandfather. As soon as the girls met, they became instant friends. They held hands immediately and we couldn't separate them so we decided to tour around together. Maya was speaking English to Jana and Jana was speaking Arabic to Maya. However, they both seemed to understand each other. We made our way around the zoo as the girls fed zebras, camels, peacocks, an elephant and even a hippopotamus! The zookeepers here let the kids get very involved, but always have their hand over theirs just in case.

As you know, here in Egypt, a little baksheesh (tipping) goes a long way. This was the case at the zoo when the lionkeeper showed us into the back room with the cages. Sitting in one of the cages were 2 little lion cubs. They were 2 months old and super cute! Soon enough one of the cubs was pulled out of the cage and placed in Jason's arms. He actually got to hold a lion cub!!! We will definitely be posting those pics as soon as we can.

So needless to say, we all had the time of our lives at the zoo, especially Jason and Maya. In fact, Maya still asks about Jana every day. Priceless!

With love,

J, K & M
